The answer to this question is key because we cannot go beyond how we see ourselves.
If you see yourself as incapable of doing something, you will be unable. If you see yourself as a failure, you will become one.
The way we see ourselves has a lot to do with our upbringing, background, and the words spoken to us. Those words paint a picture on the inside of us, which becomes the cap or the ceiling above which we cannot go.
Some people will be afraid to go beyond that limit, even to the point of sabotaging themselves. Some will go to this extreme in order to line up with the image that they have of themselves.
Some time ago, I read about trained elephants in a circus or safari, they are kept in confinement by tying a rope around their leg. They are too strong for that rope, but that rope controls how far they can go.
You might ask, how is that possible?. The answer is that the elephant is held by the same rope since birth. When they are young the rope is too strong, they try hard but cannot break it.
Slowly, the young elephants start believing that they will never break free, so they stop trying. Even when they become adults and they are strong enough to free themselves, they will not try to do it.
This is an illustration of what actually takes place inside ourselves. When we believe that things are going to be a certain way, then we will stop trying and believe that we can succeed.
You may ask, how can the wrong image be changed?. We need to believe the truth about ourselves. I encourage you to think of the qualities and gifts that you have got. Meditate on the promises that you have received from The Lord. Then receive that truth.
Thanks for reading.
