Above all things guard your heart with all diligence because it determines the course of your life. P4:23 NLT
The word heart is translated from the Hebrew word leb/ lebab.
Lebab refers to the heart and mind or the inner person, contrasted to the outer person.
More specifically, leb refers to the will, emotions, imagination, and thinking through.
You can determine the course of your life by watching over your heart. i.e, watching over your thoughts and emotions.
Not every emotion and thought that you experience has to be allowed to remain, you do not have to entertain them or line up with them.
You can choose what to think and what emotions to give expression to.
This is important because the thoughts and emotions in our hearts affect what we say, Mt 12:34), what we see (Pr 4:25, Job 31:7, Mt 5:28), and what we do. (Pr 4:26, 27).
What we do will, certainly, direct the course of our lives. Â
We are reminded in the Bible to think of things that are pure, noble, admirable, and of good report. Philippians 4:4
Today, I encourage you to take charge of your life by controlling which thoughts and emotions you allow to remain in your inner person. Â
Remember, watch over your heart and choose the direction of your life.
The choice is yours, you can do it. Â
